OBBBA 2025: Key Employer & Payroll Updates You Need to Know
The permanent extension of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is set to bring changes that both employers and employees will feel in everyday work and paychecks. One of the biggest shifts is the new “no tax on tips” rule, which means tipped employees could see more in their take-home pay, while employers will need to update payroll processes. Adjustments to overtime taxation and new thresholds for Form 1099-MISC/NEC reporting also mean extra steps to stay compliant. Families may notice changes through updates to personal exemptions, child tax credits, and moving or transportation benefits. On top of that, new rules tied to Trump accounts, student loans, and employer-provided meals are reminders that both businesses and workers need to stay informed and plan ahead for these financial shifts.
